Title Line Image Foreword

Welcome to The Mubadala Brief

As we head toward the last quarter of 2026, this issue of The Mubadala Brief brings you a roundup of recent developments across the portfolio.

This edition looks at the growth of advanced industries across the UAE, from aerospace to health care. On the international front, read about our investments in mobility and freight brokerage, as well as how AI data centers could soon be faster and more efficient. Plus, what’s next on the calendar.

But first, a look at our commitments in the United States, one of our largest investment markets.

The US offers key opportunities

Mubadala has commitments worth US$ 170 billion (approx. AED 624 billion), or about 44% of the portfolio, in US investments across AI, semiconductors, energy, health care and advanced manufacturing.

He made the remarks at August’s Milken Institute Business Dialogue in collaboration with Mubadala, an event held alongside the Mubadala DC Open.

Mubadala now has more than 80 direct investments in the US, including the semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries, which recently secured a US$ 300 million federal award; more on that below.

Title Line Image Portfolio Spotlight

R&D boost for AI chips

Mubadala portfolio company GlobalFoundries has signed a letter of intent for up to US$ 300 million in US federal funding to accelerate silicon photonics technology, which powers more efficient AI data centers.

Silicon photonics transmits information with light rather than electrical signals, enabling higher bandwidth, greater interconnect density and lower power consumption.

The technology supports the AI infrastructure and data centers driving the global economy.

As the AI boom continues, major technology companies are on track to spend more than US$ 650 billion this year, according to Reuters. The demand has accelerated the need for more efficient compute.

AI chips are forecast to reach 50% of the total semiconductor market by 2030, according to JLL.

GlobalFoundries’ recently introduced SCALE platform targets performance of 400 gigabits per second and up to five times greater energy efficiency than current-generation implementations. View the announcement →
