Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala), Eon Resorts, and Viceroy Hotel Group are pleased to announce that luxury resort Viceroy Maldives will officially debut on September 1, 2011. The intimate 61-bungalow island resort, part of the company’s steadily expanding Viceroy Hotels and Resorts brand, is set on the archipelago’s pristine 17-acre Vagaru Island.
Viceroy Maldives is being developed Vagaru Holdings Pvt Ltd – a joint venture between Mubadala and Maldives-based luxury hotel developer, EoN Resorts. The resort is the newest property in the Viceroy Hotel Group portfolio and first outside of North America. Mubadala is a 50% shareholder in Viceroy Hotel Group, and is actively driving the expansion of the luxury Viceroy Hotels and Resorts brand into key gateway cities and destinations across the globe.
“Extending the Viceroy brand across the world to the Maldives is a very exciting development for us,” says Brad Korzen, Founder and CEO of Viceroy Hotel Group. “It will be unlike any property we have seen in this market, with unparalleled design, style and service that will deliver a remarkable experience for our guests. We look forward to welcoming our clientele in September.”
“Mubadala’s approach of building successful partnerships with leading developers and brands has been critical to the delivery of this important project for Mubadala,” commented Peter Wilding, Associate Director, Mubadala Real Estate & Hospitality. “The international expansion of Viceroy is central to our hospitality strategy so I’m delighted that Mubadala and its partners are able to make this announcement today. I look forward to the official opening in September.”
Each of the resort’s luxury beachfront or water bungalows is nestled on the white sand beachfront or set directly on the turquoise sea. Private plunge pools, ensuite baths and generous outdoor areas in each bungalow allow for optimal privacy and superior comfort in an awe-inspiring setting. Viceroy Maldives will feature some of the most spacious accommodations in the Maldives, ranging from 1,300 sq feet to 3,000 sq feet. The resort’s five dining options will offer everything from casual beachside cuisine to high-end seafood fare, all using the finest and freshest ingredients available. Restaurant concepts will incorporate Asian and European influences, and private venues including an underground wine cellar will also be available for celebratory dining and chef’s table dinners.
Those looking to relax and rejuvenate can enjoy indulgent spa treatments at the resort’s over-water spa bungalows, which will include seven treatment rooms for individuals as well as couples. Natural elements such as the sun, sea and Maldivian culture will be infused into holistic treatments, allowing guests to achieve an ultimate sense of well-being and healing. Healthy cooking demonstrations, Ayurvedic treatment experiences and yoga classes will all be offered as part of the program at The Spa at Viceroy Maldives.
Guests will be awed by the transcending interiors created by Yabu Pushelberg. The award-winning firm drew inspiration from the islands’ natural beauty and culture, utilizing only the necessary elements in order to avoid competition with the unsurpassed location. From the moment guests arrive on property by seaplane and are transported to their bungalows by golf cart, they will feel an ultimate sense of calm. Whether lounging in an oversized daybed overlooking the lagoon, socializing beachside at the resort’s signature restaurant, or relaxing with children in the sophisticatedly playful kid’s zone, Viceroy Maldives exceeds the expectations of even the most discerning guest.
