SR Technics and Qatar Airways have signed a contract to modify the cabin layout of three Airbus A321 and two A319 aircraft. The agreement further strengthens the relationship between SR Technics and Qatar Airways. Work is being carried out in Zurich, Switzerland, and will be completed by the end of 2010.

SR Technics is part of Mubadala Aerospace’s global MRO network which also includes the Middle East’s largest independent MRO provider, Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT).

The comprehensive cabin modifications include the installation of a new seat layout, an In-flight Entertainment (IFE) system, and a Global System for Mobile communication (GSM), which allows the use of mobile phones in the air. At the same time the new Qatar Single Aisle Aircraft Standard is being installed and all galleys and lavatories are being renewed. The enhanced cabin concept provides more luggage space for the passengers and reduces the overall weight of the aircraft thanks to lighter interior materials.

To fulfill the contract SR Technics brings in its industry leading quality standards, the know-how of its specialized staff as well as its extensive in-house back-shop capabilities.

“We are delighted that Qatar Airways has favored SR Technics with this new contract and has confidence in our quality standards and the competitiveness of our service,” says André Wall, Chief Operating Officer at SR Technics. “We look forward to continuing our support of Qatar Airways and to supporting their ongoing development.”

SR Technics is based in Zurich and works in close alignment with its sister company Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) which shares the parent company Mubadala Aerospace. The two MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) companies are central to Mubadala Aerospace’s plans to establish a global MRO network hub in Abu Dhabi that covers the entire MRO value chain including engine, component and airframe capability.

Both companies work in partnership with Mubadala Aerospace’s Sanad Aero Solutions which provides leasing and management of spare components and engines to the global airline industry. Sanad Aero Solutions provides innovative opportunities for airlines to monetize existing assets, secure inventory solutions required to support fleet growth and access a broad spectrum of world class MRO and technical service solutions offered by Mubadala Aerospace’s global MRO network.
