Masdar received the first World Clean Energy Award (WCEA), presented by Transatlantic21 Association, on June 15th in Basel, Switzerland.

The Abu Dhabi government’s Masdar Initiative was selected out of a 70 international nominees as the winning entry in the category of “Finance and Investment”. The newly created awards recognize achievement and innovation in the integrated use of energy efficiency and renewable energy, and honour the world’s best projects promoting the large-scale use of renewable energies.

Masdar was chosen for the award because it represents the government of Abu Dhabi’s vision and commitment to invest in the future of energy and environmental sustainability. In accepting the award, Masdar CEO Dr. Sultan Al Jaber thanked the WCEA organizers for recognizing Masdar’s commitment and contribution to renewable energy and the environment.

Dr. Al Jaber said, “Being associated with WCEA and participating with other global initiatives which set new standards for the large-scale use of clean energy solutions is a great honour.” Dr. Al Jaber further explained, “The WCEA program provides an honoured international platform for recognizing and encouraging continued advancement in the field, and highlights the need for a global focus on the development of advanced energies and sustainability-related technologies.”

The Award’s overall objective is promoting the integration of clean and sustainable energy in all human activities. The awards support projects which assist this aim by providing a distinguished global platform for recognizing and encouraging the application of clean energy technologies. Each winning project represents a best-practice example, which can serve as a role model for others and hold the potential for broad practical application within a short time frame.
