The final night of the fifth edition of the Mubadala Football Tournament, hosted by Mubadala in collaboration with Healthpoint, concluded on Thursday night with team HOMKO taking the 2015 championship title.
The week-long tournament kicked off on Sunday 5 April with over 200 players battling it out at Zayed Sports City Stadium. Sixteen teams played three intensive nights of round robin football before moving on to two nights of finals playoffs. The HOMKO team won in an exciting final match against Salesbury by a score of 2 – 0 in the penalty shoot-outs after drawing 2 – 2 at full time.
“Mubadala is committed to encouraging the community to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. Now in its fifth year, the tournament has become a well-established event in the capital. We are happy to see growing interest from semi-professional teams and players, and at the same time, very proud to have loyal teams that have been participating in the tournament since its inception in 2011. We are delighted with this year’s results, and it was wonderful to see the passion and sportsmanship that all the teams brought to the pitch,” said Nadine Hassan, Head of Social Development and Partnerships, Mubadala.
Healthpoint, the Regional Healthcare Partner to Manchester City Football Club, have awarded Alaa Terkawi from Salesbury, Top Scorer, and Khamis Al Mansoori from Al Malaki, Most Valuable Player of the tournament, the opportunity to watch the Aston Villa-Manchester City match on 25 April, including covering costs of flights and accommodation.
