Spectacular performances will make their way to The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi, between February 18th and 21st as it sets the stage for its second annual Chinese New Year celebration.

Ushering in the Chinese Year of the Goat, Abu Dhabi’s premier retail and dining destination will be once again bursting with fun-filled events and activities, including spectacular dance shows, acrobatic performances and artistic displays.

Ali Eid AlMheiri, Executive Director at Mubadala Real Estate & Infrastructure, said: “Recognizing the ever-strengthening tourism bond between China and the United Arab Emirates, we welcome families, friends and visitors to Abu Dhabi to come celebrate Chinese New Year on Al Maryah Island. The island’s prime location and first-class amenities have made it a terrific venue for multiple community events and our recent New Years celebrations, drawing increasing numbers of tourists from China. We look forward to welcoming guests to the wonderful array of events and activities lined up as part of our second Chinese New Year celebrations.”

Residents and guests from the GCC and beyond will converge on Al Maryah Island to enjoy the four day-long event and experience one of the oldest festivals in the world with rich and colorful activities. From savoring a Chinese New Year-inspired menu at Rosewood Abu Dhabi, to enjoying thrilling performances at The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, the celebrations will offer something for every member of the family.

“With a growing number of Chinese tourists visiting UAE’s capital and selecting The Galleria on Al Maryah Island as their lifestyle destination of choice, we have decided to turn last year’s extremely successful Chinese New Year celebration into an annual event. Our visitors enjoy curated experiences and this event is bound to cater to their expectations”, said Charles Martinez, General Manager of The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi, and VP of Gulf Related.

To capture the imagination of the local community and visitors in honour of the auspicious occasion, the property will be transformed into a modern adaptation of the famed “The Seven Chinese Sisters” tale; following the journey of seven sisters with unique talents such as speed, martial arts, culinary skills and the ability to talk to animals. When one of their own is taken by a terrifying dragon, they combine their talents to rescue her and bring peace and harmony to their village.

The narrative will be brought to life in the main indoor atrium where Chinese acts will take place on a grand two-level stage. Visitors will be enthralled as dancers, martial artists, plate spinners, acrobats and aerial artists showcase their tricks every evening with each performance representing talents possessed by one the Seven Sisters.

In addition to the daily performances, traditional Chinese decorations will adorn The Galleria on Al Maryah Island’s indoor concourse along with contemporary Chinese art installations.

Guests can also enjoy street performances and authentic Chinese street food at stalls along the waterfront promenade to complete the festival experience.

Rosewood Abu Dhabi, the five star hotel adjacent to The Galleria, will also mark the occasion with special surprises and treats for guests.

The Chinese New Year celebration at The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi, will take place from 18th to February 21st, 2015, from 3pm – 10pm daily. For more information about The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, please visit www.thegalleria.ae or call: +971 2 6166 999.
