Mubadala Healthcare’s newest hospital brings nearly 100 years of clinical excellence to Abu Dhabi
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of Mubadala’s network of world-class healthcare facilities, today marked the completion of its opening process, with all of its 30+ medical and surgical specialties now available across the five Centers of Excellence – Heart & Vascular, Neurological, Digestive Disease, Eye, and Respiratory & Critical Care.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi was established to support the strategic development of a sustainable and world-class healthcare system in Abu Dhabi, and has been specifically designed to complement the existing healthcare system by providing comprehensive complex and critical care for many of the acute medical conditions which previously necessitated international travel for treatment.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a collaboration between Mubadala and US-based Cleveland Clinic, a partner chosen for its 94 years of clinical expertise and strong track record of treating a number of acute conditions prevalent in the UAE. For example, Cleveland Clinic has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the #1 heart hospital in the US for the last consecutive 20 years.
Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Chairman, Board of Directors, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Deputy Group CEO & CEO of Emerging Sectors, Mubadala Development Company, commented: “Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi was established with a very specific mandate, and today we’ve reached a critical milestone toward supporting the Government of Abu Dhabi’s vision to provide world class healthcare in the Emirate.
He further commented: “The advanced medical expertise available at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi helps to provide an even more robust healthcare network in the UAE and region, offering UAE nationals, residents, and fly-in international patients comprehensive services in Abu Dhabi. This means that UAE- based patients can stay in the Emirate for their care, close to their families and support network. We are incredibly proud of this achievement which will have an immediate and personal impact on the people of Abu Dhabi today and for generations to come.”
Dr. Marc Harrison, CEO, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said, “Since this journey began, we’ve had one clear focus—replicating the clinical capabilities of Cleveland Clinic to provide access to the most innovative treatments and technology, performed by physicians of the same caliber as US-based Cleveland Clinic. Our 175 physicians bring experience from some of the world’s top medical institutions and are now working together as a part of Cleveland Clinic’s Group Practice Model of Care. This collaborative approach to patient care means we can coordinate our physicians’ specialized expertise around our patients needs to provide some of the most advanced medical care available.”
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi treats patients using a Group Practice Model of Care. Pioneered by Cleveland Clinic, this Model of Care sees different specialized physicians working together to comprehensively diagnose and treat a patient’s condition.
For example, in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Heart & Vascular Institute, cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, and vascular experts work together around a single patient to formulate the most effective course of care, instead of sending the patient through a series of referrals.
Since first accepting patients in March, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has booked over 8,500 appointments and seen over 5,500 patients. More than 120 surgeries have been performed, including several complex procedures.
At this time, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi accepts select Daman enhanced and Thiqa insurance plans, and also welcomes patients who wish to self-pay.
Services in the Emergency Department are now available; however, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi does not serve as a trauma center. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi does not offer orthopedics, obstetrics, gynecology services, or treat patients under the age of 14 with the exception of the Eye Institute.
