Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of Mubadala’s network of world-class healthcare facilities, today commenced its opening process which will see most services becoming available between today and May 31, 2015.

Services in the Eye Institute are now available, where patients can receive care for a range of conditions including cataracts, cornea diseases, eye conditions related to diabetes, glaucoma, and others.

When fully open, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will offer complex care in more than 30 specializations for which UAE patients often travel abroad, including Heart & Vascular, Neurological, Eye, Digestive Disease, and Respiratory & Critical Care. The introduction of services at the Eye Institute marks the first step in the hospital’s opening process, which will then see the subsequent opening of more complex specialties, finishing with the opening of the Emergency Department. This process is a global best practice for opening complex and critical care hospitals of this scale.

Dr. Marc Harrison, CEO, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi said, “We are thrilled to welcome patients to our Eye Institute and are honored to begin delivering on our promise to provide world-class care to our patients here in the UAE. ‘Patients First’ is our guiding philosophy and shapes the decisions we make every day. It also underpins how our measured approach to opening services at the hospital ensures high quality care and patient safety. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be announcing additional services related to Digestive Diseases, Heart and Lung conditions and much more.”

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a multispecialty medical campus that replicates and extends the unique patient-centered Model of Care at the US-based Cleveland Clinic, offering services for which Abu Dhabi patients may otherwise need to travel abroad. The hospital’s 175 physicians and more than 1,000 nurses and allied health professionals will deliver complex care in more than 30 medical and surgical specialties. It also brings Cleveland Clinic’s unique Group Practice Model, which organizes clinicians around an organ or disease to better serve individual patient needs.

Dr. Marc Harrison, CEO, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi continued, “Our mission is to provide compassionate, patient-centered care of the highest quality to the people of Abu Dhabi. Patients walking through the doors of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi are going to receive the same quality of care as they would expect to receive at Cleveland Clinic in the US, which has been tailored to local needs and culture. This will enable our patients to stay close to their families and loved ones – their strongest support system – while being treated for complex medical issues.”

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a cornerstone of Mubadala’s strategy to develop a sustainable healthcare sector in the Emirate, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for complex and critical care.
