Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and New York University Abu Dhabi initiate landmark partnership

Leading US institutions come together in Abu Dhabi to collaborate on research, knowledge-sharing, and training

ABU DHABI – Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of Mubadala’s network of world-class healthcare providers, and New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD)  have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on research, knowledge-sharing, and education and training programs. 

The partnership seeks to leverage the organizations’ respective expertise in medicine and higher education to improve health and foster knowledge transfer within the UAE community. Potential areas of focus include:  

  • Research – partnering on clinical research and innovation, and, through NYUAD’s Public Health Research Center and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s clinical investigation capability, research on key regional health issues 
  • Knowledge-sharing events – collaborating on conferences and workshop series 
  • Training and education – exploring undergraduate, continuing education and professional development opportunities

Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Mubadala Deputy Group CEO & Chief Executive Officer, Emerging Sectors, and Chairman, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, commented: “Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and New York University Abu Dhabi, these two world-renowned institutions, which are now firmly established in Abu Dhabi, are working together and positively influencing their respective sectors to generate significant social and financial returns, stimulating diversification.”

The partnership will help both organizations work to achieve their strategic visions. NYUAD will look to enhance its academic offering with practical experience in medical and health-related fields. For Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, this supports the formation of an academic medical center that, in addition to clinical care, is focused on clinical research and education.

In his capacity as Chief Academic Officer and Chief, Cardiovascular Medicine, Heart & Vascular Institute, at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. E. Murat Tuzcu is responsible for implementing an innovative, creative and state-of-the art medical research function and education strategic plan at the medical campus.
