…targets 7 million by December
Etisalat Nigeria CEO, Steven Evans has announced that the telecommunications company has recorded over six million subscribers on its network and is on target to end the year with seven million subscribers. Mr. Evans made the announcement at the just concluded AfricaCom (Telecommunications) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
“We recently crossed the 6 million subscriber mark and we hope to reach 7 million before the end of the year,” elated Evans announced to the gathering of major stakeholders who were delegates to the annual conference.
Etisalat had in July announced the attainment of four million subscribers, promising continued innovation and quality services backed with aggressive densification of its network recognising quality as the bane of the Nigerian telecommunications industry.
Evans attributed the massive acceptance and phenomenal increase attained in subscriber base to the yearning of Nigerians for superior service qualities that enable them stay in touch with their family and loved ones as well as their businesses and business associates. He also noted that six million active subscribers in just two years in a saturated market like Nigeria is evidence that Etisalat customers are satisfied customers.
Etisalat has witnessed consistent and rapid growth in its subscriber base since it formally commenced commercial operations in the country in October 2008 after a grand and innovative entry into the market with the 0809uchoose campaign. The campaign gave prospective subscribers the opportunity to choose their own numbers on the Etisalat network. The company currently has coverage in all the 36 states of the federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
