UAE’s Satellite Services Operator Connecting Communities Globally
Yahsat’s satellites reach more than 80% of the global population, enabling critical communications including broadband, broadcasting, backhauling and mobility solutions. Yahsat provides a wide range of C, Ku, Ka, and L-band solutions for land, maritime and aero platforms to consumers, governments and enterprises. Its businesses consist of Yahsat Government Solutions, Thuraya, YahClick (Powered by Hughes), YahLink and Yahlive. The company is the preferred satellite solutions provider to the UAE government entities. Its direct-to-home broadcast service, Yahlive, reaches 100+ million viewers across MENA, South West Asia and Europe.
Yahsat currently has 5 satellites in operation: Al Yah 1 (launched 2011), Al Yah 2 (launched 2012), Al Yah 3 (launched 2018), Thuraya-2 (launched 2003) and Thuraya-3 (launched 2008), with the last 2 satellites becoming part of the fleet in 2018, when the company acquired the mobile satellite services operator, Thuraya. In 2020, Yahsat commenced the construction of a sixth satellite, Thuraya 4-NGS, which is due to be in service by 2024.
Yahsat is actively contributing to the UAE’s National Space Programme by identifying and training Emirati cadres in space and satellite engineering at its Space Lab in Abu Dhabi. By commencing in-country production of critical satcom technologies, it is clearing the way for the UAE’s emergence as a sustainable and sovereign space economy.
Yahsat’s CSR programmes enable satellite connectivity, facilitating e-learning and telemedicine for disadvantaged communities within the UAE and internationally. When disasters strike, the company serves as a critical lifeline saving lives globally.
