A leading innovative petrochemical company enabling customers to deliver high-quality plastic for a healthier life.
NOVA Chemicals Corporation is a leading petrochemical company with over 76 years of experience. Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, the company is consistently investing in innovation to deliver premium ethylene and polyethylene, chemical co-products and expandable styrenic polymers.
With more than 14 operational facilities and centres, the company develops value-added products and technology for customers that produce consumer, industrial and packaging products worldwide.
Wholly owned by Mubadala, NOVA Chemicals’ quality polyethylene (PE) resins provide high-performance, sustainable, cost-effective solutions that can help to extend food freshness, reduce packaging gauge, improve organoleptic properties, enhance barrier properties and provide product protection. They are a resilient alternative to traditional materials for numerous applications, including food packaging, heavy-duty sacks, hygiene films, caps and closures, industrial injection moulding, small part blow moulding and many more.
The company is a leader in expandable polystyrene (EPS) technology and applications development. EPS has moved beyond foam packaging and insulation to become a significant source of foam construction products for many applications as well as the traditional foam beverage cup. The primary markets include Building & Construction, Geofoam, Packaging and Cup & Container. NOVA Chemicals produces high quality and high-performing resins under three brand families: SURPASS®, SCLAIR®, and NOVAPOL® resins.
Nova Chemicals is building a new polyethylene facility in the Sarnia-Lambton region and expending its current Corunna site in the Southwestern Ontario area. The expansion of the Corunna site by approximately 50 per cent will provide ethylene feedstock to the new facility, which is designed to increase Nova's polyethylene production capacity by about 450 kilotonnes per year. In addition, NOVA Chemicals and Borealis has formed a joint venture (JV) with Total Petrochemicals and Refining USA. Key aspects of the JV includes building a new 2.2 billion lb ethylene cracker in Port Arthur, Texas, building a new 1.35 billion lb Borstar PE plant in Bayport, Texas and Total’s existing Bayport PE facility, total capacity 880 million lb.
