Cosmo Energy Holdings is one of the largest, fully integrated oil refining and marketing companies in Japan with operations in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors.

Cosmo Energy was established in 1986 and operates three major refineries in Japan and markets its products domestically through a network of 2,791 petrol stations and overseas. The company also produces and sells petrochemicals products and engages in crude oil exploration and production operations primarily in the UAE and Qatar.

 

Cosmo Energy based in Tokyo, has over 6,800 employees. Mubadala has a 20.8 stake in the company.

Cosmo Energy manufactures oil products in three oil refineries at Chiba, Yokkaichi and Sakai with a total capacity of 177,000bpd, 86,000bpd and 100,000bpd respectively.

Cosmo’s alliances include a JV in Chiba, a business alliance with Showa Shell Sekiyu Group in Yokkichi, JV with JXTG Group on refineries integration, a strategic alliance with CEPSA and a business alliance with Kygnus Sekiyu.

The company is currently opening up new markets for its oil products in North America and Oceania, with a particular focus on refined kerosene, jet fuel, and light oil products that can meet the strictest environmental standards.

Additionally, to reinforce a stable supply of petroleum, Cosmo Energy has forged strong, long-term relationships of trust and cooperation with the oil-producing nations of the Middle East. The UAE and Japan enjoy strong commercial ties, with Japan being the largest importer of oil from the UAE and the UAE being one of the largest exporters of crude oil to Japan.
