Today, Yahsat’s fleet of five satellites reaches more than 80% of the world’s population, enabling critical communications including broadband, video broadcasting, backhauling and mobile voice and data solutions. Yahsat provides a wide range of C, Ku, Ka, and L-band solutions for land, maritime and aero platforms to consumers, governments and enterprises. Its businesses consist of Yahsat Government Solutions, Thuraya, YahClick (powered by Hughes), YahLink and Yahlive.
The operator’s first satellite Al Yah 1 was successfully launched in April 2011, and a second satellite Al Yah 2 was added to its fleet in April 2012. Yahsat launched its third satellite, Al Yah 3, in January 2018, extending its commercial Ka-band coverage to 35 additional markets, including South America for the first time. Through its joint venture with Hughes - YahClick - Yahsat provides high-speed fixed satellite broadband services to over 60% of Africa’s population and to over 95% in Brazil.
Two L-band satellites, Thuraya 2 and Thuraya 3, joined the Yahsat constellation after it acquired a majority stake in the mobile satellite services operator, Thuraya Telecommunications Company, in 2018. Thuraya’s rich portfolio of integrated solutions, satellite phones, broadband terminals and IoT/M2M services are recognized globally for reliability, flexibility and resilience on land, at sea and in the sky. In 2020, Yahsat commenced construction of Thuraya 4-NGS, the next generation L-band telecommunications system, which is due to be in service by 2024.
Its direct to home broadcast service, Yahlive, reaches 115 million viewers across MENA, South West Asia and Europe.
Yahsat is actively contributing to the UAE’s Space Programme by identifying and training Emirati cadres in space and satellite engineering at its Space Lab in Abu Dhabi. By commencing in-country production of critical satcom technologies, it is contributing to the UAE’s emergence as a sustainable and sovereign space economy.
Yahsat’s CSR programmes activate satellite connectivity, enabling e-learning and telemedicine for disadvantaged communities within the UAE and internationally. In times of stress, the company serves as a critical lifeline saving lives globally.
Yahsat embodies the UAE’s philosophy of progress, innovation and limitless aspirations that are rooted in the belief that nothing is impossible for those who are determined to make their dreams a reality. It is the UAE’s primary satellite services operator offering integrated satellite communications solutions to more than 150 countries across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and Australasia.
