As part of its ongoing commitment to support the UAE’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Mubadala announced a strategic collaboration between its subsidiary, Strata Manufacturing, and Honeywell, to manufacture N-95 respirators at Strata’s Al Ain Facility.

Badr Al-Olama, Executive Director of Aerospace at Mubadala Investment Company, sheds light on the role of Mubadala’s manufacturing assets, not only in contributing to the UAE’s economic diversification, building a knowledge hub and investing in UAE national talent, but also in supporting other industries such as the healthcare sector to ensure the safety and wellbeing of UAE communities.

The manufacturing collaboration between the two companies aims to address the need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which is one of the most significant challenges governments and organizations are facing globally as they work to limit the spread of COVID-19. N95 masks play an important role in filtering out particles and protecting the wearer from contracting airborne viruses.

The new manufacturing line will be the first N95 respirators manufacturing line in the GCC region and commenced operations in the middle of May 2020, with an expected annual output capacity of over 30 million masks.

As the UAE currently imports all N95 respirators from abroad, this manufacturing line will help the country meet its national requirements for masks and transform it into an exporter of this critical PPE product, a key milestone of Strata's “Made with Pride in the UAE” mark.

By collaborating with its longstanding and valued partner, Honeywell, Mubadala will be able to leverage its breadth and scale to deliver critical support to frontline healthcare workers and members of the wider community in the UAE and around the world.
