Dubai, UAE, 6 December 2010: In a demonstration of the company’s dedication to supporting the education of young people both in the UAE and around the globe, a number of du employees participated in the ‘Walk for Education’ Walkathon. The initiative, organised by UAE-based charity Dubai Cares, took place recently on Jumeirah Beach Road in Dubai. “We are proud that our employees participated in this hugely worthwhile cause, which provided a real opportunity to make a difference to the lives of children in need around the world,” commented Hala Badri, EVP Brand and Communications, du.

During Dubai Cares’ walkathon, participants walked 3km in order to experience the average distance that a child in a developing country has to travel on a daily basis to acquire his education. All participants contributed AED 30 in order to take part and received a Dubai Cares T-shirt and balloon.

Following the overwhelming response from various members of the UAE community including schools, universities, social clubs, companies and governments entities, over 5,000 residents from across the UAE participated in last year’s 2009 Water Bucket Walk.

As a company committed to contributing worthwhile causes both locally and internationally, du participates in and supports a number of initiatives in the UAE in order to help support those in need.
