Tatweer Petroleum is engaged in a leading-edge effort to revitalize production at the Bahrain field.

In April 2009, the government of Bahrain awarded a  Development and Production Sharing Agreement to Mubadala Petroleum, together with the National Oil and Gas Authority of Bahrain and Occidental Petroleum, to redevelop the Bahrain field. This production giant, which first produced oil in the 1930’s, was until recently thought to be exhausted.

Tatweer Petroleum was formed by Mubadala Petroleum and its partners to raise oil output and increase Bahrain’s gas supply using the latest enhanced oil recovery techniques.

Since the company began operations, the partners have made substantial investments in new wells and new facilities. More than 193 wells were drilled in 2013 by three modern and highly mobile rigs, bringing the total number of new wells to 645 since 2010. Existing facilities for oil production, gas handling, and water handling have been refurbished, and additional facilities have been constructed. In 2014, field back oil production averaged 44 million barrels per day, up from the initial 26 million barrels per day; non-associated gas averaged 1.6 billion cubic feet per day.
