Mukhaizna, located in Block 53 onshore Oman, is operated by Occidental. It the largest enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project in the region and utilizes extensive steam flooding in order to maximize output of Mukhaizna’s heavy oil. Thermal recovery operations have been implemented on more than 400 thermal patterns across the field. By the end of 2011, Mukhaizna was producing around 120,000 bopd. Further development of the field is designed increase production to a plateau rate of approximately 150,000 bopd.
